Brooks Lindsay is the Founding Attorney of Light Legal PLLC, a Seattle-based law firm for growing businesses and technology companies. He is a corporate and commercial-contracts attorney who uses his experience as a founder to help other founders and business leaders solve problems and succeed. Brooks is experienced in commercial transactions, tech transactions, IP matters, website and privacy issues, general corporate, formations, securities and finance, M&A, employment matters, real estate leasing matters, and other common legal issues facing fast-growing companies and founders. He is particularly skilled at performing outside general counsel functions and quarterbacking across a spectrum of legal needs. Brooks takes an integrated, multi-disciplinary approach that leverages his law, business, and entrepreneurial background to add maximum value to his clients. This includes taking advantage of the latest AI legal tools to improve efficiencies, lower costs, and increase the speed of providing legal services to his clients.
Before founding Light Legal, Brooks was an attorney at top Seattle-based law firms for businesses, including Foster Garvey PC (the oldest law firm in Seattle) and TangoLaw PLLC (a boutique firm representing high-growth and venture-backed companies nationally and internationally).
Brooks received his B.A. from Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service and a JD and MBA from the University of Washington, including a Certificate of Entrepreneurship from the Foster School of Business. During his JD/MBA years, Brooks gained business and tech legal experience at Amazon AWS, Intellectual Ventures, the UW Technology Law and Public Policy Clinic, and the UW Tech Policy Lab where he was a Hazelton Fellow.
He was also a startup founder for five years after college, creating an online encyclopedia of debates and arguments called Debatepedia. He uses that experience to advise clients with a founder’s mindset, the way he would have liked to have been advised. His experience as the founder of Light Legal and an entrepreneur in legal services adds additional perspective and value for his clients.
In addition, Brooks was a communications professional early in his career with stints at the World Bank Group and at Nyhus Communications in Seattle. He believes that excellent, transparent, and timely communications are foundational to high-quality legal services. Brooks is 40 years old and has about 16 years of professional experience of relevance to his career, including about 8 years in business and technology law specifically.
Brooks lives in Seattle with his wife Addie and child Lucian. The Lindsay Clan in Scotland, from which Brooks descends, was known for centuries as the "Light Lindsays" due to their fleetness in battle and levity. Lucian, which means "light" or "defender of light", was named in honor of this heritage. Brooks believes strongly in teaching and practicing the values associated with "light", including light-heartedness, kindness, integrity, transparency, deftness, knowledge, insightfulness, intensity, agility, efficiency, and swiftness in action. These values are at the heart of Light Legal.
Brooks is a member of the Washington State Bar.
